Gleason Art

Artist’s Statement

After graduating from Art Center in Los Angeles my career began in my mid twenties.  I became an illustrator and game background artist and then worked as art director.  I designed movie posters, among them the original Halloween movie poster. My illustrations were used in advertising as well as creating greeting cards and record album covers including one for Stevie Wonder.  Twenty-five years ago I left the world of commercial art and started working on canvas as a fine artist. This was a large step and I have been influenced by many artists from the 60’s including Jasper Johns, Waine Thiebaud, and other artists like Kandinsky, Edward Hopper among others. For the last decade my work has been mostly of cityscapes but recently during the pandemic I have been moving into abstracts. The diagonals in my art reflect the general unsettled nature of this time.
